Academic Support
The Morgan School Counselors play a vital role in helping students achieve academic success by providing individualized support tailored to each student’s unique challenges. Through one-on-one meetings, counselors assist students in troubleshooting academic difficulties, whether they involve time management, study strategies, or personal issues impacting performance. They connect students with valuable resources, such as tutoring programs, while also facilitating problem-solving discussions to empower students in overcoming obstacles. By fostering a supportive environment, the counselors encourage students to develop resilience and proactive approaches to their academic journeys, ultimately paving the way for their success.
Peer Tutoring
The Morgan School Counseling Department is excited to announce the creation of a Peer Tutoring Program! Students in grades 9 through 12 have volunteered their time to tutor classmates once a week during their study hall. Students who are interested in receiving tutoring during the school day should submit this form. Counselors will then match students and tutors based on subject and study hall availability.

Senior Planning Website
Each year the school counselors compile resources for seniors and their parents to help through the postsecondary planning process. To Do List, assistance for completing the Common App, requesting letters of recommendation, writing a college essay.
College Preparation
Throughout their time at The Morgan School students will work on building their knowledge and skills necessary for college success. The Morgan School Counselors will work with students throughout their 4 years, but starting in their junior year for more detailed work on the college research and application process. The counselors and students work off a junior planning and senior planning worksheet.
College Visits
Juniors and seniors have the opportunity to engage with representatives from many college and universities visiting The Morgan School throughout the fall. You can view the calendar of upcoming visits here. Students can sign up for a visit through Naviance.
Senior Parent Meeting
Parents of seniors are invited to a meeting in the fall to review our process for working with students and hear from a college admission representative about the college application process. 2024 Presentation.
College Application Support
The Morgan School counselors provide seniors with support throughout the year in the college application process. Counselors provide student help through small groups and individual meetings. Parents are encouraged to attend their student's initial senior parent meeting.
NCAA Eligibility
Do you want to play College Sports?
In order to be eligible to play NCAA sports at a Division 1 or 2 school, students must register and become certified with the NCAA Eligibility Center prior to the start of their junior year of high school in order to meet NCAA academic and amateurism requirements. If a student-athlete is unsure if they will play at an NCAA Division 1 or 2 institution, or they are planning to play at the Division 3 level, students may set up a free Profile Account which can be transitioned to a Certification Account if needed.

The Morgan School counselors play a crucial role in supporting students' career development by providing personalized guidance and resources. They help students explore their interests and strengths through career inventories in Naviance, starting the process of discovering their talents and interests. In junior year, counselors facilitate valuable job shadowing opportunities, allowing students to gain firsthand experience in potential career paths. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in career fairs, field trips, and Future Path seminars, connecting students with industry professionals and equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate their future careers successfully.

Standardized Testing

The PSAT, administered in the fall of each academic year, serves as a valuable opportunity for students in grades 9, 10, and 11 to assess their academic skills and prepare for future standardized testing. For 11th graders, taking the PSAT automatically enters them into consideration for the National Merit Scholarship, a prestigious recognition that can provide significant merit aid for college. Students receive their scores a few weeks after the test through their College Board accounts, allowing them to identify strengths and areas for improvement, making the PSAT an essential step in their academic journey.

The SAT is a standardized test offered to high school juniors each year, providing an important benchmark for college readiness. For the 2024-2025 academic year juniors will take the SAT on March 5, 2025. The College Board also offers additional national testing dates throughout the year, allowing students more opportunities to take the test. The SAT assesses key skills in reading, writing, and mathematics, and strong scores can enhance college applications and open doors to scholarship opportunities, making it a pivotal step in the college admissions process.
As students apply to college, they can send their scores through their College Board accounts. -
The ACT is another important standardized test that measures high school students' readiness for college, focusing on four key areas: English, mathematics, reading, and science. The test is widely accepted by colleges and universities across the United States. Students can choose from several national test dates throughout the year. Strong ACT scores can enhance college applications and may lead to scholarship opportunities, making it a valuable tool for aspiring college students. Taking the ACT in addition to the SAT may provide students with two scores to compare and send the better one to enhance their college application.

Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Assessment
The NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) test assesses students' understanding of scientific concepts and practices aligned with the NGSS framework. Designed to evaluate critical thinking and problem-solving skills in science, the test is typically administered to students in grades 5, 8, and high school. It emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world applications, encouraging students to engage with scientific inquiry and engineering design. By aligning assessments with the NGSS, educators aim to prepare students for future challenges in STEM fields and promote a deeper understanding of scientific principles, fostering a generation of informed and capable problem solvers.

AP (Advanced Placement) exams are standardized tests that allow high school students to demonstrate their mastery of college-level coursework in various subjects, such as math, science, history, and language. Administered annually in May, these exams are an opportunity for students to earn college credit or advanced placement at many universities, depending on their scores. The rigorous AP curriculum fosters critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deeper understanding of subject matter, preparing students for the academic challenges of higher education. Additionally, strong AP exam scores can enhance college applications, showcasing a student's readiness for college-level work and commitment to their education.

The Morgan School has partnered with local manufacturing companies to provide our students with insight into this industry and field. Each year The Morgan School hosts an Advanced Manufacturing Fair where representatives from companies come and speak with students about opportunities. A presentation in Advisory launched this opportunity. Students take field trips and have other chances to learn more too. Learn more about Advanced Manufacturing.

The Morgan School Counseling Office partners with Clinton Human Services to support students. The premement partnership is through job shadowing, but students also participate with Clinton Human Service's REACT program.
